Gavroche in Copou

Azi, într-o zi însorită dar suficient de răcoroasă de vară, mi-am luat D90-ul pe umăr şi am fugit în Parcul Copou la fotografiat. Cadrul de care sunt (poate) cel mai mândru e:

Concertul începe de la ora 19, iar intrarea în sala TVR Iaşi este gratuită; însă trebuie ajuns până la 18:50, deoarece evenimentul va fi filmat.

Miercuri, 19 mai, începând cu ora 19, sub copacul răcoros din Mojo, ne întălnim cu Ion Mitican: ne întindem la poveşti şi vedem poze din Iaşul Vechi.

Am îndrăgit istoria în general şi mai ales pe cea a Iaşiului. Mi-am dezvoltat gustul pentru scris graţie profesorului de istorie din liceu. Se bătea prea multă monedă pe savanţi şi realizările lor, iar el, ca să evite asemenea lucru, ne ţinea extraordinare lecţii despre Iaşi.

Text location bar for Nautilus 2.30+ [Ubuntu 10.04+]

After installing the Lynx, there was only the button version of Nautilus' location bar and an apparent impossibility of typing in a given path directly:

Looking for a solution, I found out about the Ctrl+L shortcut that temporarily enables the text edit version of the location bar:

Taming the Lynx

After a long back-up, I exchanged my pet Jackalope for a pet Lynx. Several reasons made me wait so impatiently to catch this new Lynx, most of them were nurtured by the all the details I started missing right after deciding to give back my pet Koala for the older Jackalope. So, my mind was set... and yes, I am talking about Ubuntu here.
I first raised my eyebrow when I saw that even if the 29th of August was long gone, the Update Manager in my Jackalope was only allowing me to update back to the Koala. Then the broadband was put to good use in order to get the ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso.torrent. Booting up from the burned image, all I got was a not so attractive error in return:

so I went for the ubuntu-10.04-dvd-i386.iso.torrent. This time the install succeeded, yet left behind a bitter-sweet taste:

• bitter: I don't remember if it ever took so long to install Ubuntu! Maybe because right after 46% I read that the install process will soon finish... Maybe because I was able to see the 95% status for a whole 10 min. period... This made me quit the install, only to restart from scratch an time the entire process: 34 minutes from boot till seeing the desktop!
• sweet: from an aesthetics pov, it looks a lot better!
  
  1. placing the close, minimize and maximize/restore buttons on the left hand side might take a bit to get used to, but it's a good "steal" in the interface improvement.
  2. both of the new themes - Ambiance and Radiance - have an improved look and feel. I prefer Radiance, and it might just replace New Wave for me.

That was the very first contact, but wait till you dig deeper! Do you want to install the proprietary Nvidia or ATI video drivers? Then get ready to say Bbye to the beautiful boot logo or to fix it!
I don't really care about the addition of PiTiVi video editor, I embrace the new versions of Nautilus, gEdit and maybe even OpenOffice, but I am going to add what fits my Ubuntu needs; right now!
