Managementul timpului in telemarketing

Cred că recent mi-am găsit un model în gândirea lui Randy Pausch.

Poate l-am descoperit târziu, dar sunt bucuros că mai bine mai târziu decât niciodată. Recent am găsit discursul său pe managementul timpului, iar un un exemplu evident şi "practic" e inspirat direct din Seinfeld:

Să ai dubii cât contezi acum pentru persoana care pentru tine contează (cel puţin) 99.9%... este asta o criză de personalitate?... no answer...

...dacă cineva nu te iubeşte aşa cum vrei tu, nu înseamnă că nu te iubeşte din tot sufletul...

...un om care nu primeşte ce are nevoie în copilărie o să continue să caute în adolescenţă şi apoi maturitate...

Un Craciun verde!

Pentru mulţi dintre noi, Crăciunul înseamnă roşul globurilor, portocaliul citricelor, albul zăpezii, auriul podoabelor din brad sau chiar albastrul mănuşilor cu care am fost la ski. Crăciunul e un moment de veselie, în care de bucuri alături de cei dragi de naşterea Mântuitorului şi uiţi de grijile de peste an, încărcându-te cu energie proaspăta. Totuşi, acest amalgam cromatic încă îşi are miezul în bradul cu cetina tot verde... Da, acesta este primul motiv/punct pentru care finalul acestui "articol" s-ar putea să surprindă aşteptările create deja...

Când eram mic, îmi amintesc de mirarea pe care o aveam când în "filmele cu americani" îi vedeam plini de o imensă bucurie când aveau zăpadă de Crăciun. Eu chiar nu înţelegeam ce e aşa mare minune să ai zăpada de Crăciun, mai ales când eu cunoşteam doar bucuria de a mă juca în zăpada până la genunchi cu mult înaintea Crăciunului... Anul acesta în schimb, chiar credeam că îi voi înţelege pe americani... Dar am avut noroc: întâi cu zăpada de la Cîmpulung Moldovenesc, ce îmi amintea de bucuria pe care o trăiam în copilărie, chiar în faţă blocului, apoi cu zăpada ce mă aştepta acasă, mult mai timidă, e drept! Şi aşa am găsit şi al doilea punct...

Toate aceste puncte s-au conectat în mintea mea când am găsit pe blogul prietenei mele link la o campanie în 7 paşi de eficientizare a consumului de energie.

Eu încă sper ca şi copii şi nepoţii mei să poată trăi cu aceeaşi intensitate bucuriile copilăriei mele... Încă sper că nu vom fi nevoiţi să modificăm DEX-ul şi să redefinim bradul ca o structură metalică în formă conică, folosită pentru susţinerea instalaţiilor electrice.

Am petrecut 21-23 decembrie la pensiunea Dor de Bucovina din Cîmpulung Moldvenesc împreună cu peste 20 de oameni deosebiţi: membri ai departamentelor Strategic şi CR din AIESEC Iaşi. Am stat împreună aşa cum sta chiciura adunată pe un fulg pictat de oameni. Am petrecut aceste zile făcându-mi noi prieteni şi întărind prietenii deja existente. Am descoperit oameni de la care am ce învăţa; dar mai mult, am redescoperit oameni care din oceanul de cunoscuţi acum fac parte din lingoul de prieteni.

Dacă week-endul trecut am patinat pentru prima dată, de data aceasta am schiat pentru prima dată!

Vreau înapoi! :D

Descopera Islanda cu Reyka!

OK, recunosc: deşi nu am gustat-o, deşi nu sunt un fan al siturilor in Flash, pe mine Reyka Vodka m-a cucerit începând de la interfaţă şi până la reclama în care se recunoştea că:

Apoi, din click in click, am aflat că dacă m-aş fi născut în Islanda, numele meu ar fi fost Marius Petrusson, apoi am fost captivat de secţiunea Fun Facts, unde am vorbit cu wikingii şi chiar şi cu puffin-ul. Dacă am să ajung să aleg o sticlă de Reyka, acum voi fi în cunoştinţă de cauză! ;o)

Ultimul discurs al lui Randy Pausch

În ultima vreme am cunoscut, am descoperit oameni, de la care am încercat să învăţ câte ceva. Totuşi, se întâmplă să găsesc şi discursuri care să aibă puterea de a mă schimbă, de a mă face să mă gândesc mai profund...

Printre acestea se număra şi cel al profesorului Randy Pausch de la universitatea Carnegie Mellon din 18 sept. 2007.

Randy Pausch a fost diagnosticat ca suferind de cancer pancreatic, boală incurabilă, lăsându-i doar luni de viaţă. Prin discursul său - "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" - prezintă ce lecţii a învăţat şi dă sfaturi spre îndeplinirea carierei şi a ţelurilor personale:

Leapsa "intelectuala"

Am primit-o de la JO şi chiar mi se pare cea mai interesantă leapşa de până acum. După o traducere liberă, instrucţiunile ar suna aşa:

1. Ia cartea care este cea mai aproape de tine.
2. Deschide-o la pagina 123.
3. Găseşte a 5-a propoziţie/frază.
4. Postează pe blog textul următoarelor 4 propoziţii/fraze să cu aceste instrucţiuni.
5. Nu îndrăzni să scotoceşti prin rafturi după cartea aceea foarte deosebită sau "intelectuală".
6. Dă mai leapşa departe la alţi 6 prieteni.

La mine, răspunsul e din Programming Collective Intelligence şi sună cam aşa:

Project Management: Reloaded

Mâine, împreună cu Andi, Ramona și cu Klin din NTT vom merge să "instruim" aproximativ 45 de membri noi şi 15 membri vechi din SSMI.

Mediciniştii îşi organizează în acest an conferinţa de instruire şi motivare la Piatra Neamţ timp de 3 zile. Agenda pe care am conceput-o ieri cu Pitu este plină de traininguri menite să le dezvolte de la cunoaşterea de sine până la închegarea echipei.

După ce pe 4 noiembrie am avut ocazia să prezint unui grup de 14 membri SSMI o introducere în Managementul Proiectelor, de data aceasta vom merge la nivelul următor şi îi voi învăţa despre Managementul Proiectelor pe termen lung. Asemeni lui Andi, sper să transmit cât mai multe informaţii care să îi ajute pe viitor, dar mai ales să transmit informaţia cât mai bine şi să fie mulţumiţi de modulele practice pe care le-am pregătit.

Ai uitat o căciuliță?

Gata! M-am hotărât! De acum am să fiu puţin-şi-mai-român şi am să-mi scriu posturile în romană de acum...

Dacă mai demult ziceam de un corector ortografic în Firefox, de data această am descoperit ceva şi mai interesant. Deşi încă în variantă beta, Marian Ţarălungă a lansat diacritice.com. După cum spune autorul este vorba de

un site de conversie a textelor româneşti într-o limbă romană care conţine şi caracterele specifice ei şi anume diacriticele ă, Ă, â, Â, î, Î, ş, Ş, ţ şi Ţ.

Că un adevărat sceptic, am zis că întâi am să îl încerc... apoi, am scris aceste cuvinte şi l-am folosit pentru a-mi adaugă diacriticele. A avut o abordare destul de naturală, gen dicţionar T9 de pe mobil, lăsându-mi alegerea în clipa în care avea alternative şi nimerind corect majoritatea cuvintelor.

Îmi place sloganul: punem accentul pe limba română doar logoul mi se pare total neoportun.

Da, a avut loc BlogMeet-ul din Iaşi! Surprinzător, am regăsit acolo atât prieteni vechi cât şi prieteni noi.

Se anunţa că o sa iasă cu poze, nu? Am făcut şi eu câteva, unele mai (puţin) reuşite decât altele, mai ales că nu îmi regăseam cheful de fotografie în atât fum cât era pe acolo:

Yahoo! Messenger for Vista Preview

When I first heard about it I just thought that it was only some sort of new YM 9.0 release, but I thought I'll still have something to see in an official presentation: at least how a the presentation was made! :P

Well, the Yahoo! team has released a preview of their Yahoo! Messenger for Vista which is actually built on WPF. Now I can really connect the dots and see why Petru was so into evangelizing WPF! This is another big leap from the UX point of view. This version is built from the ground up for the Windows Vista operating system, as Ryan Stewart confirms:

the new version just feels like a native Vista application and all that entails including richness, transparencies, and very powerful reflow features.

Since this is only a preview release, many features are intentionally left out, but the good news is that you can run both Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 or 9.0 and Messenger for Vista on your PC depending on what you need.

Here is the list of included features, directly from the source:

• Entirely new interface that harnesses the power of WPF, the graphics subsystem in Windows Vista
• Organize your conversations into tabs, or drag and drop a tab out to create a new window

Free CSS Level 1 Course

It's been awhile since I've started reading MICROFORMATS empowering your markup for Web 2.0 by John Allsopp, but reading it I found out that it doesn't only explore why, in Bill Gates's words, "We need microformats"; how microformats work; or the kinds of problems microformats help solve. I also learned some neat tips & tricks for CSS like design patterns or other best practices.

But today I found something that I thought might take my CSS skills even one step further:

Westciv have a series of self paced courses available for purchase and download. But you can also follow our courses for free just by returning to this site every week. At the moment we're running CSS Level 1 in the free course program. Every week a new section of the course becomes available, but you have to work around our schedule, as the old sections disappear.

Stand-up comedy @ DeKO

Vă promiteam într-un post anterior că în curând vom mai avea parte de stand-up comedy de calitate de la DeKO; aşa că iată care sunt în viitorul apropiat show-urile de stand-up din Iaşi care merită:

1. pe 2 decembrie vine Trupa DeKO în Hypnotic. Au băgat biletul 20 ron, e drept, dar e și consumaţie inclusă. În plus, va fi mult mai bine aranjată sala de data acesta, cu scaune extra, pufarine, transmis pe plasme pentru locurile de unde nu se vede foarte bine.
2. pe 16 decembrie vine trupa mica, Trupa Cealaltă, iar Narcisa spune că vor exagera cu preţul biletului.

Acestea fiind zise, distracție plăcută! ;o)

Tech dependant

RAM is an animation about becoming too reliant and emotionally attached to your personal computer. It is an exaggeration of my research on recent trends of dependency and attachment found in children for their PCs, especially in the US and UK. The animation centres on the interaction between two boys, Mark and Tylr, while the technical focus of the piece is on animation, particularly facial animation. The style of the piece is based on Japanese anime, which has already been used for many technological and sci-fi series, and is born from a country famous for its technophilia and tendency to use technology for fun and companionship. The voice actors I used were children I overheard at a comic book store, and while most of the dialogue is scripted, I also made use of excess recordings that were just too lol to not use. Enjoy! XD

După ce timp de aproape un an i-am așteptat pe cei de la RDS&RCS cu telefonia inclusă în abonament, ieri mă sună la ușă o tipă cu o pungă de telefoane să îmi explice ca oricum așa eu am minutele respective pe mobil, iar ei nu se mai chinuie cu infrastructura... Mda, win-win spun ei! În primă instanță eu i-am crezut, vorba aceea Calul de dar nu se caută la dinți!

Telefonul în discuție este un HUAWEI U120s, (review) iar pe pagina producătorului apare cu următoarele specificaţii:

Daca aveţi nevoie, aveți la dispoziție și manuale în limba româna.

Prima dată m-a uimit că nu am nici căşti, nu am nici cablu de date și nici măcar un CD cu ceva soft pentru telefon! Totuşi, să le luăm pe rând:

1. căşti: mufa este standard, TRS de 3.5mm, putându-se folosi orice pereche căşti;
2. cablu de date: se poate utiliza un simplu cablu USB A-Bmini; eu îl folosesc pe cel de la cameră (Canon) fără probleme. Dacă nu ai, găseşti pe cabluriGSM.ro.
3. cât despre software, la o prima căutare problema pare mai delicata, dar dacă ai răbdare, cu siguranţă găseşti:
   • Vodafone PC Assistant;
   • HUAWEI PC Assistant;
   • MobTime Cell Phone Manager.

De ce avem de ales între atâtea pachete software?

1. PC Assistant de la Vodafone este doar o versiune personalizată a PC Assistant de la HUAWEI, dar dacă ai telefonul de la Vodafone, nu cred că are rost să te stresezi în plus.
2. Dacă optaţi pentru oricare dintre cele două variante amintite anterior, nu aveţi nici o problemă la sincronizare, dar când vreţi să copiaţi fişiere pe telefon vi se cere să vă înregistraţi. Nici eu și nici multe alte persoane care au mai încercat (toate) codurile de pe cutie nu am reuşit să îl înregistrăm. În plus, la cât am căutat, nu am reuşit să găsesc un keygen/patch/crack. De aici și recomandarea mea pentru MobTime Cell Phone Manager, (chiar dacă pe site U120 nu apare între modelele suportate) pe care îl puteţi "înregistra" mult mai uşor.

În cazul în care aveţi nevoie doar de drivere pentru cablul de date, le puteţi găsi aici. Ghidul de instalare "oficial" :o) spune să urmaţi paşii:

1. Startup your phone and wait till phone completes its initialization, use USB data cable to connect phone with computer that then will show you a message: find a new hardware and guide you to install this new device.
2. You can find drivers in directory "USB Data Cable Driver" of CD. You need tell Windows where is the right path to install the driver and continue the following installation according to the hint of Windows.
3. In the process of installing driver, operation system will show you a message "Digital Signature Not Found" or "has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with this version of Windows", please select "Yes" or "Continue Anyway" to complete the installation.
4. You can check windows "Device Manager" to validate if the driver has been installed successfully, you can also reinstall the driver of the device.

Daca totul a mers bine, trebuie sa aveţi mai nou un Device Manager:

• Mobile Adapter - 3G Modem
• Mobile Adapter - 3G PC UI Interface

Eu nu am reuşit să găsesc unde are telefonul meu Bluetooth! :(
Totuşi, pe partea de E-book and WordViewer, îmi citeşte .txt si .doc, numai că nu îmi recunoaşte fişierele .pdf...
Cum tot suportă microSD de maxim 1Gb, urmează să îi testez capacitatea de a reda diversele tipuri de fişiere audio (MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP4, 3GP, 3G2)... nu de alta, dar mă gândeam să îl transform în mp3-player, să iau exemplu de la Simona, să învăț și eu germană! :D

Cluj for all

Last week-end I was in Cluj and even though I haven't spent much time outdoors, I already miss being there a lot!

I'm not very good with my orientation in space, so I usually try to compensate in every way that I can. I know about the myth that a man has more chances to get lost than to stop and ask for instructions; well, I am one of the exceptions :P

In Cluj I figured out that I really don't know the city that well... Actually, I don't even have to, but still... While browsing a bit here and there, I found a really good portal: Cluj4All.com. It's filled with useful information, but the thing I really enjoyed is their interactive mapping system:

On that map you can see ABI Hotel, the place where I've slept for a night. Really polite people and the place in warm and cosy. It's actually my second time there, but something tells me I'll see that ABI again...

Well, next time you'll be going to Cluj, you will have something to start with! ;o)

Wi-Fi T-shirt

Some days ago I was laughing about how much some people know about the 802.11b and 802.11g standards when they aired the news about the hot-spot finding t-shirt.

Actually, for $29 I would gladly buy a t-shirt like that! When I heard about it, I thought that even the wi-fi detecting device would be more expensive. Now that I saw it, I imagine it would be kind of awkward to nod your head just to "check the signal"...

I know that around here hot-spots are not as ubiquitous as they should be, but think of it for a second: wouldn't it be fun to wear it in a wi-fi club! ;o)

The single problem is that the price grows if we add the customs fees (taxes, duties, processing fees, brokerage fees etc). Until a dealer will thing of bringing them to Romania, I'll just have to wait until I'll know someone that can bring one here...

Ieri ma anunta o prietena ca joi, pe 29, va fi iar stand-up la Luceafarul! In prima instanta, chiar eram entuziasmat, apoi am indraznit sa intreb si cine o sa vina. Adevarul e ca pana intr-o zi, nici de Teo nu stiam, asa ca m-am gandit ca poate cei de la Comedy Now sunt un nume nou doar pt mine...

Poate sunt eu mai mofturos, asa ca am sa va las pe voi sa decideti:

Time seems to run pretty fast!

Some time ago I was telling myself that one of the criteria in order to feel "important" is that I always have to be able to choose, to have alternatives, even in the choice seems hard in the first place! Sometimes you have to leave aside something very important to you to be able to reach, to achieve something that's even more important! That is why I chose to celebrate my birthday far away from home...

Persoana Fizica Autorizata

Tot am cautat in ultima vreme detalii despre ce inseamna PFA si cu ce se mananaca. Si tot cautand pe google, am ajuns pe blogul lui Filip.

Dupa cum zicea Claudiu Andrei:

PFAul in acest moment este o solutie foarte viabila de plata, mai ales pentru joburie cu salarii ceva mai mari.

In primul rand pentru ca pentru a fi angajat conform codului muncii, companii trebuie sa dea cca 45% din fondul de salarii la stat, deci tu practic ramai cu 55% din bani.

Daca se foloseste un sistem pe contract si PFA, la acelasi fond de salarii, pe care il vei incasa integral, trebuie platit 16% impozit pe profit (nu pe venit, si o spun din experienta proprie), deoarece exista o paleta de chelutieli deductibile care nu trebuie sa depasasca 60% din venituri. In aceste cheltuieli poti include chirii, electricitate, telefoane, etc, cheltuieli care oricum le faci.

In plus ai obligatia de a-ti negocia contributiile la stat, ceea ce insemna ca poti sa iti negociezi la ce valoare consideri, chiar si deloc, deoarece legea nu percepe clar acest lucru.

Singurul impediment este ca trebuie sa iti tii contabilitatea in partida simpla, ceea ce sincer e relativ simplu.

In concluzie daca lucrezi cu PFA, poti sa iti pastrezi chiar si 90% din fondul de salarii, ceea ce e substantial mai mare decat 55% prin codul muncii.

In plus avand in vedere ca sistemul asigurarilor de stat e la pamant si oricum e recomandata o asigurare privata de sanatate si chiar si un sistem privat de pensii, personal consider ca aceste contributii care trebuie platite la stat sunt pur si simplu nefolositoare.

Daca totusi vrei o varianta care sa aduca atat beneficiile financiare ale PFAului cat si pe cele ale unei carti de munca, varianta hibrida pe salariu minim este ideala.

Faina idee, in special plina de valoare datorita intrebarilor si cazurilor particulare din comentarii...

Dezbaterea a continuat pe un grup de discutii.

Guerrilla o da in bara

Dintre toate radiourile pe care le-am ascultat pana acum, Guerrilla e pe primul loc intre preferintele mele. Asa se face ca de luni pana vineri, intre 5PM-8PM il ascult pe Bogdan Serban si muzica aleasa de la Guerrilla Logout.

Bogdan Serban ne spune ce mai este de facut cu orele ce-au ramas din zi, intr-un interval in care majoritatea dintre noi isi inchid calculatoarele si, in ciuda patronatului, sparg usa biroului, bagand serviciul in starea de Logout.

In seara asta, pe la 7 fara 20, mi-a fost dat sa ascult o stire despre niste tricouri Wi-Fi... Eu, ca un geek wannabe ce ma aflu deja ciulisem urechile! Doar ca ce mi-a fost dat sa aud mi-a redefinit putin punctul de referinta:

cica exista variante diferite, la care se aprind ledurile fie la un semnal de 802.11 biti fie la unul de 802.11 giga...

Pai frate, eu chiar nu stiam ca exista o diferenta atat de mare intre standardele 802.11b, respectiv 802.11g. :D

Eh... oameni suntem... sortiti imperfectiunii...

Training pentru Facilitatori

Proaspat intors de la conferinta locala de pregatire organizata de AIESEC Iasi, simt o mare nevoie de reprioritizare a activitatilor pe care mi le planificasem pana acum.

O activitate oarecum complementara celei de trainer in AIESEC mi s-a parut a fi stagiul de formare pentru facilitatori organizat de Consiliul Europei, prin Directia pentru Tineret si Sport.

Consiliul Europei, prin Directia pentru Tineret si Sport, organizeaza stagiul de formare pentru facilitatori implicati in activitati de educatie non-formala. Stagiul se va derula in perioada 1-10 februarie 2008, la Centrul European de Tineret din Budapesta, Ungaria.

Candidatii trebuie:

• sa aiba varsta intre 18 si 30 de ani;
• sa fie implicati activ intr-o organizatie sau retea de tineret si sa fie pregatiti sa-si asume, ocazional, responsabilitati in domeniul formarii;
• sa fie bine informati despre organizatia, institutia sau serviciul incare activeaza si sa poata sa explice celorlalti participanti despre activitatile de training in care au fost implicati;
• etc.
  

Data limita pentru inscriere este: 16 noiembrie 2007.

Aveti disponibile si informatii detaliate.

Eu aplic, pentru ca mie mi se pare chiar o oportunitate demna de fructificat!... Cine mai vrea detalii, in limita cunostintelor mele sunt deschis sa va ajut.

Stand-up comedy - manual

Am gasit intamplator un link la un manual de stand-up comedy... Pentru inceput, l-am frunzarit doar...

Pana una alta, am fost la the real thing si am ras cu Teo, Vio si Costel in Hypnotic.

Mai multe detalii (poate) maine, pentru ca acum sunt prea obosit dupa un LTS de 4 zile la Slanic Moldova :)

Trupa DeKO in Hypnotic

Costel Bojog, Viorel Dragu (Vio) si Claudiu Teoharie (Teo), trupa de stand up comedy infiintata de Dan Chisu la Cafe Deko, in Bucuresti, se lauda ca nu-si hranesc textele doar din cuvintele de post ale DEX-ului, ci si cu expresii importate, uneori angro, direct din cartier. „Vorbim vulgar, asa vrem sa facem treaba asta, ne asumam si riscurile, si lucrurile bune. Facem stand up pentru oamenii deschisi la minte care stiu sa vada gluma dincolo de o vulgaritate“, teoretizeaza Teo, care se cenzureaza totusi cind face stand up pentru companii sau pentru un public mai pudic.

Pe 11 noiembrie, in Hypnotic, baietii de la DeKO promit sa ne redefineasca simtul umorului. Eu stiu ca ii astept... Poate ne vedem acolo! ;)

Trupa Cealalta - Café Déko

Am început luna bine... joi am savurat din plin o portiţe sănătoasă de stand up comedy. Deși inițial îl așteptam pe Teo, i-am descoperit pe cei de la Trupa Cealaltă.

Programul a fost umplut de:

• Tiberiu Popovici;
• Tudor (al cărui nume nu era pe bilet);
• Cosmin Nedelcu (aka Micuțu);
• și Radu Isac.

Cel mai mult mi-au plăcut Tibi și Micutu, în timp ce Tudor a avut glume cam slabe pentru gusturile mele, iar Radu puţin cam prea acide. Poate ca în timp am să învăţ să gust și glumele lui Radu mai bine, dar rămâne de văzut...

Până una, alta, vă las să decideți voi ce vă place din ce am apucat să filmez printre hohotele de râs:

Stand up comedy in Iasi - Café Déko

L-am "cunoscut" pe Teo@Cafe Deko la inceput prin niste cuvinte vulgare. Apoi am gasit si BloguLuTeo... Dar cand am aflat ca vine in Iasi, nu am ezitat si mi-am adunat scamele din buzunare pana am facut rost de bani de un bilet! Abia astept ziua de maine, dar pana atunci, avem la dispozitie o mostra:

Teamwork Training in AIESEC

Now that we, in AIESEC Iasi, have the new members it's yet again Induction time! This time, as a LTT member I also had a training: teamwork.

This training was a first from several perspectives:

• 1^st training with a co-trainer - Sandra!
• 1^st training without my usual Microsoft PowerPoint presentations
• 1^st training with good old flip charts...

Yes... I do miss it! The moments when I was giving Gerberas to my girlfriend, and the moments when I didn't gave her at least once a real sunflower...

Still, they say that Gerbera L., is a genus of ornamental plants from the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

Nevertheless, I miss some aspects of the last summer...

Picasa Connection Problems

When I take pictures, I see that I mainly have 2 approaches:

• there are those moments when I can stay for a few minutes for a photography, just to make it as close as possible to what I see there;
• and there are those times when I make "weekend pictures"; when I make a lot of pictures without giving much thought to the artistic side of them. And this is mainly when I have to upload lots of pictures from AIESEC conferences. :P

Since I moved the storing place of my pictures on my laptop, I also reinstalled Picasa. Usually I use it for bulk uploads for my picasaweb accounts.

But where are the problems? you might ask by now! Well, for about a week, I wasn't able to connect to my Web account from the desktop application. The answer was actually within reach:

1. Start Picasa.
2. Click "Blog this" in Picasa. This should pop a proxy identification dialog box.
3. Accept all the subsequent certificates.
   
4. Once you reach the blog page, close it.
5. Now click connect to webalbums on Picasa.
6. Enter gmail username/password and it should connect fine.

Until this problem is solved, I hope you will find this useful!

Tables are bad—m'kay?

I know, I know, when designing some content for web, use divs & CSS instead of tables for structure. It's just that until now I'm better in structuring the content in the bad way.

I've really started to get back to reading, and took Microformats: Empowering Your Markup for Web 2.0 by John Allsopp from the first page once again. While reading the 3rd chapter—Structural and Semantic HTML—I've finally understood why is it a bad practice to use tables for layout... even if, strictly speaking, this is valid!

The HTML 4.01 specification states the following:

The HTML table model allows authors to arrange data—text, preformatted text, images, links, forms, form fields, other tables, etc.—into rows and columns of cells.
Tables should not be used purely as a means to layout document content as this may present problems when rendering to non-visual media. Additionally, when used with graphics, these tables may force users to scroll horizontally to view a table designed on a system with a larger display. To minimize these problems, authors should use style sheets to control layout rather than tables.

That is why I'm now convinced that I also have to get rid of this not good contemporary structural and semantic markup practice.

If anyone knows of something quick and well explained like "Idiot's guide to table-less design", please share! :-D

The Cube: Vista way!

Since I'm quite new to Vista, I looked for the-cool-cube-effect only recently:

Yod'm 3D (Yet anOther Desktop Manager 3D) allows you to have virtual desktops with a 3D cube effect for the transitions on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. It is pretty much like Beryl, on Linux, but featuring only the spinning cube.

How does it work ?

1. Download Yod'm 3D 1.4 (MediaFire mirror)
2. Decompress the file in a folder of your choice
3. Run the program
4. Push the keys Ctrl + Shift and change your desktop by displacing the cube with your mouse, or by using your left and right keys.

They say that the 3D effects of this kind require a rather efficient computer. I can say that it behave very well on my laptop and I did not find it to be CPU consuming.

Yod'm 3D 1.4 is the former version that was still free. The newer versions (not free anymore) are called DeskSpace.

Lupta impotriva discriminarii

În Iași, în perioada 5-7 octombrie 2007, va avea loc o serie de evenimente dedicate persoanelor cu dizablități. Din cauza bugetului redus nu s-a reușit decât tipărirea a 50 de afișe și 220 de fluturași, un număr aproape nesemnificativ pentru atragerea de spectatori.

Fotomaraton: editia a treia

Centre Culturel Français Iaşi a lansat o nouă ediție a concursului de fotografie Fotomaraton!

În acest an totuși, evenimentul este de două ori mai important pentru mine, atingându-mi două hobby-uri. Dacă până acum eram entuziasmat de oportunitatea oferită pe plan fotografic, de această dată am participat și la dezvoltarea sitului.

Partea de design la site, împreună cu restul elementelor de identitate ale evenimentului, a fost realizată de către Adrian Mironescu. Eu în schimb, am avut grijă de logica și codul din spatele sitului.

Tehnologii folosite: PHP, XHTML & CSS.

Online TV & movies

It's been 4 or 5 years since I've decided not to watch TV anymore... In the beginning I was thinking about buying a TV tuner, but I've dropped that idea pretty soon.

Lately, I kept an eye out for different ways to keep my girlfriend up to date with the Romanian reality. Because she is still abroad for her internship, my single option was an online alternative. This is how I found several "online TV" sites. But from most of them, I personally chose TV Cafe Romania. The winning feature for me were the movies (DivX Web Player required). I'm not saying anything about the legal side, but for the moment I'll just enjoy it! I'm just saying that it's quite a good alternative to downloading them.

Another cool site brought to life thanks to the DivX Web Player is Stage6. If you have some free time, it's really worth it.

Later edit: Thanks to Liviu, I found out about the Online Video Guide, that they say was in the "top 10 best site of the year" by Time Magazine.

October 1st

Weird feeling today: everybody was in a hurry to attend their classes, everyone was talking about school... But for the first time in the last 5 years October 1^st lost it's true meaning... At least for me!... At least this year!

Some time ago I was testing my speed... my home ISP. Right now I am in Moldova Mall, 5th floor, with a friend, drinking a coffee. While working on a recruitment strategy wannabe I thought I should check the speed from this wireless. Guess what?

Ortografie românească in Firefox

De când abia apăruse Firefox 2.0, m-am bucurat din plin de corectorul ortografic pentru limba engleză. Chiar mă gândeam încă de pe atunci de ce nu s-a insistat mai mult pe această facilitate adusă browser-ului. Ieri mi-am instalat pe mașină nouă Firefox 2.0.0.6. Mai ales că mă apucasem să scriu și posturi în română, mai multe decât înainte, mi-a revenit în minte nevoia inițială.

Eu nu sunt unul dintre acei utilizatori care să alerge mereu după ultima versiune. Dacă mă mulțumește versiunea actuală, nici nu îmi trebuie mai mult... decât poate după o formatare. Totuși, odată cu noua versiune instalată, am regăsit și facilitatea pe care o căutam! Poate sunteți deja familiarizați cu dicționarele disponibile pentru Firefox, dar dacă nu, iată corectorul ortografic pentru limba română pe care îl folosesc și eu.

Deși zicea Andi că tutorialele sunt "miezul", pentru schimbarea corectorului folosit nu aveți mare bătaie de cap. După ce ați instalat varianta dorită, dați click dreapta în orice control de tip input și din meniul contextual alegeți Languages -> limba dorită.
